Understanding Persistent Body Aches: Causes and Relief

Question
I have been having body aches, I assume it is from the flu/or virus since my whole family has been sick at some point.  My son had a fever and sore throat.  The fever was only one night but the sore throat lasted a few days.
My question is, I have been hurting over a week!  No fever, and my only other symptoms are a stuffy nose from time to time and a mild ear ache from time to time as well as mild headache.  The body aches are not as bad as when it first started but I still have that tense feeling.
Is it normal to ache that long?  I am still functioning but not very well some days, lol.  Thanks.

Answer
Hi,
Aching is normal with a viral illness but prolonged aching is not. If this continues to improve, it is probably OK to wait it out, but if it persists for another week, then it is time to have an exam to determine why this is occurring. In rare occasions, a viral illness can precipitate other illnesses such as Thyroid disease and heart problems.
