Palm Nodule: Understanding Potential Causes & Next Steps

Question
My daughter (17 years old) has a 'nodule' under he ring finger(right hand). it's the size of a small pea. it's not visible to the eye but you can feel it.
If you move it, it moves and that is painful. We have seen a doctor but he says it's the ligament. My questions are:

1.  Is it anything to worry about?
2.  What course of action do you recomend?

Thank you very much.

Answer
Hi Aparow,
Well, it ISN'T a ligament. It more likely involves a tendon. Nodules on a tendon of the finger can commonly be a tendon sheath cyst or rarely a Giant Cell tumor (not malignant).
In any event, if it bothers her, I would see a HAND SURGEON for an exam and possible romoval.
