QuestionThis symptom occurs only after I have been off my feet for some time (relaxing in a chair, sleeping in bed). When I stand I have severe pain in my heels. To describe the pain, it is sharp and feels completely internal. After standing for some time the pain subsides. I do not work a job that requires I be on my feet a great deal and do not have a great amount of health issues, aside from being little over weight.
AnswerHi Jennifer,
This sounds like Plantar Fascitis---in lay terms, heel spurs---.
Ideally treatment is stretching of the sole of the foot, anti-inflammatories (provided you can take them) and heel pads (from Walmart for instance).
If this fails, sometimes steroid injections into the heel can help, although this is a last resort procedure. Follow up with your healthcare provider about this.
