my tongue has been black in color twice in one week. What could cause this?

Dear Carol,   This could be "black hairy tongue"....  This is a condition caused by a build up of bacteria which actually causes black hair like substance to build up on the tongue....

Also, Pepto bismol can cause this if it is regurgitated into the mouth and Pepto Bismol can also cause black stool..  Also, excess iron can cause this condition....

Of course there are also other medical problems that can cause this and here is a web site that may help you and if you feel you should see and doctor and get this checked out then do so...
