QuestionHi,
Last year I was away on holidays and had a cold for which I took Sudafed. I got an enlarged thyroid at the time and was unaware that Sudafed could have caused this - I went to a doctor and got some blood tests which showed elevated thyroid levels, but since it went away then i thought no more of it. Soon after that I got CMV and was out of work for ~2 months - unusual in an adult so i thought i would mention it. Just recenlty I took Sudafed again for a cold and got the same thyroid reaction (this is when i realised that i was taking sudafed last time also and re-read the label which says not to take if you have thyroid issues). Another thing is that I have a family history of high cholestorol and mine is abnormally low (~2)....looking on the internet there seems to be a link between high cholestorol and an underactive thyroid so I am wondering is the opposite the case also?
So the question I have is whether this suggests I have a slightly overactive thyroid (dont have any other symtoms that i know of) that sudafed exacerbates? I am also a little concerned that for this and for CMV, the standard questions ask about immunodeficiency dieases....due to the fact that I have also had CMV recently should I be concerned about my immune system im some way??
Thanks!!!!

Ans: could be or just that sudafed is bad for everyone.

Ans: yes you should be concerned and take steps to improve your diet by eliminating omega-6 plant oil see http://efaeducation.nih.gov for ways to do that and take nutrients if OK with your doctors to replace what is missing in the food supply today.
Ask your doctor but this is what I use for my patients:
1) Fish oil 3000mg before each meal and at bedtime
2) High Potency B complex, (B-100) before each meal
3) Magnesium oxide 250 mg before each meal and at bed
4) Calcium carbonate with Vit D at dinner and bed
5) Vit C 500 mg before each meal
6) Vit E 400 IU twice a day
7) Cinnamon 1/4 tsp in food before each meal if over weight
