Frequent Colds: Understanding Recurring Infections and Immune Health

Question
Ever since having my daughter two years ago, I have been experiencing frequent colds - about one a month during the winter months.  I have one now and I just had one two weeks ago!!!  I seem to get one just about
every time my daughter has one.  I know that children get more frequent colds than adults so why am I picking up all of hers?!  I'm just wondering if there could be an underlying problem with my immune system and if you suggest any tests I should get done by my doctor.  I know that is is not allergies as I have been tested for those last year with the prick test.  Any advice you could give would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your time!

Answer
Hi Jennifer,
Colds are common this time of year. If you're getting them at the same time as your daughter, it is highly likely that she is infecting you. Unfortunately, one of the joys of parenthood is illness courtesy of your children. Immune dysfunction isn't a likely cause of your colds. You would have much more serious diseases if that were the case.
