Frequent Urination: Causes, Symptoms & When to See a Doctor

Question
QUESTION: Hi,

I'm a 36 year old female and for a few weeks now have been having frequent urination only during the day, i go about 7-10 days but after i go i still feel the sensation having to go again, i have no buring or pain and i output normal amounts of urine. I bought a home urine test and that came out negative, i'm also not pregnant.  I'm worried about interstitial cystitis, could that be it?

ANSWER: Hi Vivian,

I highly doubt you have interstitial cystitis (IC). Most women with IC experience mild to severe pressure and tenderness with pain when their bladder is full. The pressure and tenderness usually intensifies when voiding. They do have frequent  and urgent need to urinate; however, there is an associated discomfort with or without pain in their pelvic area. And the most reliable source of diagnosing women with IC is the high intensity of symptoms during menstruation.

You've indicated that you only have frequent urination during the day with normal output. If you have increased the amount of fluids, that might be a definite answer to your problem. If you have not increased your amount of fluid intake, I would recommend getting retested for urinary tract infection and diabetes.

QUESTION: I do have a little bit of pressure above my pubic bone area, i had chills yesterday and drank some cranberry juice and took motrin and woke up better today, with no chills or urination frequency.  Is going every 2-3 hours normal?  So i can completely rule out IC? I'm worried to death about IC.  I have a complete physical this month.

Answer
Hi Vivian,

I recommend that you obtain the advisory from your physician to ease your worries. I honestly cannot examine you over the internet; thus, completely ruling out any diseases or urinary tract infections are impossible.
