Nicotine Testing for Life Insurance: What to Expect

Question
I am about to take a blood test for a term life insurance policy.  I smoked a cigar about 10 days ago, and about 4 dips of snuff per week (for the past several months).  Do they test for nicotine or some other chemical in tobacco to verify if I am a smoker or not?  A friend of mine tested positive for smoking and he had smoked a cigar about two months previous...can they test that far back on a blood test???

Thanks

Answer
Dear Dustin,

Unfortunately it does take about 30 days or so for nicotine
to be out of your system.  Your insurance premium may be higher if the insurance company so designates different premiums for smokers and non smokers.

Once your premium is set I doubt they would ever lower the premium for non smoker.

Just as a point of interest........snuff is the absolutely worst thing and the incidence of mouth and tongue cancer is alarming.  Please think twice about that.
