Energy Drinks and Fatigue: What to Know (Especially with COPD)

Question
I am a 70 year old woman with COPD. Before my exhausting rehab classes, I have tried to take Dr. Oz's energy drink (Juice, banana, soy powder, rice bran, wheat germ, Brewers yeast, flax oil) but found instead that they make me very tired and sleepy. Is it my age, condition or the brew?

Answer
Dear Lotta,

That is the problem with energy drinks.  You have energy for a brief period, then get this massive letdown afterwards.

Please, especially with the COPD, consult your physician before taking energy drinks.  They are not always what they say they are...added ingredients, not the designated amount of ingredients as on the label, etc.

Remember that COPD causes a strain on the heart, so you should always check with your doctor before taking any medication or supplement over the counter.

My prayers and best wishes to you.

Sincerely,

Andrea
