Toenail Regrowth & Pain: Is It a Concern?

Question
About 6 months ago i had my big toenail removed.  It is growing back and is almost normal size but i am having a lot of swelling problems and pain right next to the nail on one side.  there is also a little pus and some bleeding from underneath but it is not heavy.  It is very tender to the touch and red and swollen and it has been this way for at least a few weeks.  is it necessary to go to the doctor about this or is it common for the healing process of such a thing?  if it is not necessary are there any steps i can take to make sure it doesn't get infected?  thank you.

Answer
a lot of times the nail grows back and cuts into the side and creates a small infection (ingrown nail) soaking it at night will help soften the nail and it may get better, but if it gets red, painful and really oozes, then you might need antibiotics and possibly have the doctor trim the nail so it grows straight without cutting into the skin.... hope this helps...
