Alcohol and Medication Interactions: A Guide for Patients

Question
Hi,
I am currently on several different drugs. I am on 300mg of Lamictal, 600 mg of wellbutrin xl, yaz, and 108 mg of concerta. i was curious about the interactions with of my medicines with alcohol. what could happen if i drink?

Answer
Hi Noel,

I am glad you asked this question, rather than find out first hand....

Lamictal with alcohol can cause increased drowsiness, dizziness and seizures.

Concerta with alcohol can cause greatly decreased concentration.  Also, if someone abuses alcohol, chances are they are going to abuse Concerta.  Concerta can be addicting just in and of itself.

Wellbutrin and alcohol can cause seizures.

To be on the safe side, do NOT drink alcohol with any of these medications.  If you do drink, please, please, PLEASE, let your physician know.

Best wishes,

Andrea
