Managing Intense Menstrual Cramps Without Birth Control: Causes & Relief

Question
I am not taking the pill and I have not been since high school. I had thyroid surgery last year and the medication I have been on since, does not allow for me to take birth control. With that in mind, I have had 3 periods since April 1st. I have had the dark brown bleeding at the end, so it was a full cycle. My only concern is that my cramps are so intense I'm bed-bound for 2 days when I start, and perkacets only give me half an hour of relief...so this is a pain to have over and over. What could this possibly be caused by?

Answer
pelvic pain is very complicated and I can't give you a definite answer... you could have ovarian cysts, endometriosis, simply bad periods, etc.  I don't know why you couldn't take birth control pills.... sometimes thyroid meds have to be readjusted, but I don't see why you couldn't use them to regulate periods.   Hope this helps..
