Macular Scar in Children: Understanding Vision Loss and Treatment Options

My 4 year old nephew was diagnosed with a macular scar in his right eye.  He is completely blind in that eye now. Is there a surgery or anything that can be done to restore his vision?

Answer
The macula is the "nerve center" for the vision receiving nerves in the eye... It depends on what caused the scar and how bad it is as to whether anything can be done.   I don't know any details obviously but if he has no vision now, I am not optimistic that it can be fixed, but, he needs to see a pediatric ophthalmologist as soon as possible.
