Questionhi,
my 17 year old daughter has always had irregular periods. her problem has always been having a long period and then starting it again about a week later.she has been on bc to control it. she discontinued them in december because they were making her sick.
she got her period on may 1st and it lasted until may 6th then she got it again on may 14th and it ended on the 17th, she was having unprotected sex the whole month of may.about everyday.
on june21st she started a light pink and brown spotting. she only had to use a panty liner , it lasted for 4 days.
we did hpt and it was neg. i took her to the obgyn he didnt do a pregnancy test, but he did do an ultrasound. he didnt see any signs of a baby.
he prescribed progesterone for her to induce her period. and it hasnt come yet and the last pill was a week ago. she is having nausau, heartburn, urination ofter, she is blooted and her stomach is really hard above her public area. she has always had a flat belly. it is blotted so much now she cant suck in her stomach. she doesnt hardly eat very much because of nausau. what should i do? do you think she could be pregnant?
AnswerHi Carolyn,
I'd find another doctor. He didn't do a pregnancy test? I don't understand why he wouldn't. He could have very simply had her do a urine test and this can be done in the office, no labs, etc. Any OB-GYN should have done a pregnancy test.
I don't know if she is pregnant or not; her periods are so irregular, and she did have the unprotected sex... I'd normally say yes she certainly might be; the ultrasound might not have even showed anything at that early stage, and given how irregular her periods are, it would be hard to know how far along she even was. All an ultrasound would show at that very early stage would be just a sac, IF that. Did he check her for an ectopic pregnancy? This is where the embryo imbeds in the fallopian tube.
I would make sure whatever doctor she sees does a urine test, (very simple!), maybe even bloodwork (called a quantitative Beta HcG) and if she is not pregnant, find out why the progesterone did not bring her period on.
Good luck, please get her re-seen soon.
