Charlotte,
Lipid Management is of great importance for reducing cardiac risk. Statin drugs are the "gold standard" in western medicine, however there are NATURAL statins out there and also some vitamins that do better than statins. I offer tele-med. consultation services to discuss in detail recommendations for this sort of problem people routinely face. Sometimes it will be the combination of low dose and affordable HMG-coA reductase inhibitors (statins) with natural meds for liver protection, etc. I have written on the whole Cholesterol and health issue and it is viewable on my blog:

For an informative PowerPoint that will probably answer some of your questions. This I put together a number of years ago, and some things have changed in the years since, but the basics are there. If you want personalized lipid lowering management consider my services.
