Hiatal Hernia & Orgasm: Can They Coexist?

Question
Is it safe for a woman to have an orgasm if she has a hiatal hernia?  I have been diagnosed with one, and I understand that holding one's breath + pushing (as if to move one's bowels) can cause internal pressure in the digestive tract, and that this pressure is not good for a hernia.  A similar "action" is necessary for me to reach climax, so I'm worried that I may no longer be able to "enjoy" myself, as I once did.  (I am taking Prevacid twice a day, + watching my diet. I have lost 40 lbs so far this year, + am 59 years old, if this info helps you with your answer, at all.)  Thank you for your help.

Answer
Hi MG,

I certainly don't want you to go unsatisfied for the rest of your life, but the action you're describing is extremely dangerous and can lead to death - I kid you not - if you have any weakness in the walls of your veins or arteries (aneurysm) the increased pressure could cause them to burst and have a massive stroke. A friend of mine worked in a ER and they called them "the Saturday Night Specials" because so many occurred on 'date night'.  I would reach out to a sex specialist and ask about other, safer ways to reach climax.

Wishing you all the best, and hoping you have a long and satisfying life.
