PCOS & Endometriosis: Birth Control Alternatives & Treatment Options
QuestionI've been diagnosed with PCOS and Endometriosis but I want to know if birth control is the only option until I am ready to have kids? I had a D&C done to get rid of access tissue due to the endometriosis but the birth control sucks. I'm more nauseous than ever and I just have an overall ugh feeling since starting bcps. I just want to know what other options I have. The Metformin as well makes me feel like crap. When I talked to my doctor before I recently relocated, he only wanted to use bcp. I feel like it will never just happen if I'm forever on bcps. It's very discouraging. Please help.
AnswerHi Sabrina! :-)
I am not a physician, information is based on personal experience/opinion only.
Since your main goal is preserving your fertility, I would highly recommend a consultation with a Reproductive Endocrinologist. I know there are quite a few treatment options for endometriosis but I dont really have any experience/knowledge with that condition. Since a Reproductive Endo is "all about" fertility, he/she will know exactly what to suggest for you and their top priority will be to preserve your fertility. You didnt say how long you were on the metformin and whether or not you are insulin resistent as well. I myself take metformin and I didnt like it at first, but my RE reassured me that the side effects subside within 90 days or so of taking the drug and what he said was true for me. As far as the BCP's go- you might ask your Dr if you can try a different brand or type, they aren't all the same. Im hesitant to advise you much on that because he might have a specific reason for having you on the kind you take. When I was going thru infertility treatments I was put on a specific kind of BCP for 3 months that made me feel bad but my RE insisted I had to take that kind in preparation for fertility drugs. He said that BCP improved the odds of ovulating in fertility cycles. I hope this helps. If I can assist you further please let me know :-)
