Persistent Bloating and Weight Gain: Causes and Solutions

Question
It started last Nov w lower back pain. The back pain comes & goes. Now I am constantly bloated to the point that I look 3-4 months pregnant & my stomach is always uncomfortable. I had a hysterectomy 10 years ago, but still have my ovaries. Had them checked w ultrasound last Feb. I have gained 15+ pounds since last Nov. I'm not sure what to do. I've tried no dairy, & no wheat. I have regular bowel movements. And as of last Nov completely normal bloodwork. Also, I walk 2 miles a day. Any ideas? My dr is beginning to think I'm a hypochondriac. I look horrible & feel worse.

Answer
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but 15# weight gain and increasing girth spells gaining fat weight.....

But the bloating may have several causes... a food intolerance, like you have tried to fix.... lactose being obvious and the grains.   I assume you have had your thyroid checked and your TSH was between 0.5 and 1.5.   I would also consider doing a colonoscopy on you if that hasn't been done yet.

I would also try a good, consistent low calorie diet and see what happens with the weight.... consistency is the key, maybe around a 1200 calorie diet and see how your symptoms go.....
