Endometriosis Diagnosis: Exploring Treatment Options & Seeking Support

Question
Ma'am~
I ran across your profile and wondered if maybe you could help.  After about a year of running in circles with my doctors I was diagnosed with endo on the bladder today.  My doctor told me that depo provera was the only way to keep it in check and that my best bet was to " go ahead and have all the kids you want as soon as you can" and have my uterus removed.  Aren't there other options?  In the mean time, I'm scared and confused, any information you have would be appreciated.
Megan

Answer
Dear Megan,  First of all there is no way I can tell you all the information that you need to know in this small space provided.....

I can tell you that depo provera shots will help to keep more endo tissue from forming, but it will NOT get rid of the tissue that is already there....

Getting pregnant will act the same way as taking the depo shots....  BOTH keep you from ovulating and it is ovulation that causes the endo tissue to grow and spread and the pain.

Unfortunately, many women with endometriosis have a hard time even getting pregnant, so if you are planning on having children, you will probably want to seek out the help of an OB doctor who knows about endometriosis and fertility...

As for having the uterus removed, this will not accomplish very much unless they take the ovaries also...  Also, having a hysterectomy will NOT GUARANTEE that all the endo tissue will be gotten rid of...  Infact, the fact that YOUR endo tissue has already spread to the bladder, means that you will also have to have the endo tissue scrapped from the bladder and even this will not ensure that your problems will be over....

You need to go to the internet and look up everything you can about endometriosis....  YAHOO is the best site for this....  Type in the search words

Endometriosis

Endometriosis and fertility

Endometriosis spread to bladder

I hope this helps and thank you,   karen
