Birth Control Pill Timing & Effectiveness: What to Do When You Miss a Dose
QuestionHi Allison,
I normally take my birth control pills (Levora) at 12 noon. Tuesday I started a new job and was unable to take my pill until 1:30, wed. I took it at noon, and today at 1:30. My first question is whether or not I am at increased risk of pregnancy for missing the pill by an hour and half these couple of days? Also,I would really like to be able to take them later at night now becuase of my schedule. Can I just start taking them at night instead, or will this increase my chances of getting pregnant?
Thanks so much!
Kelli
AnswerDear Kelli,
Not to worry, there is no increased risk by taking the pill a hour and a half later. It is only if 12 hours or more that there might be a concern.
If you want to change when you take your pill that is fine. If you want you can just change when you take it right away (so long as it is less than 12 hours), or, if you feel more comfortable with this, you can slowly increase the time you take it each day by a few hours until you get to your desired time.
Regards,
Allison
