Kidney Swelling in Baby: Understanding Concerns During Pregnancy

Question

Hi,
I am from India and 6 months pregnent. During my second level(4-5 months) ultrasound docter detects sweeling in left kidney, and the gall bladder is prominentof my baby.
However, my docter says that nothing can be done before the delivery of baby and they r keeping watch on this. And they also say this is not the issue relating to life threating of my baby.

Please let me know is there any life threating issue with this? or should i wait till the delivery of my baby or is there some other treatment which should start from now?

Please suggest me something.

Answer
Generally kidney ailments by themselves are not life-threatening.  Because any prenatal treatments would involve surgery, which carries the risk of premature delivery and death, anything that will not cause stillbirth or immediate death is best treated after birth.  Once your baby is born, the malfunctioning kidney can be repaired or removed.  Until then, your best course is to stay healthy, eat well, and drink plenty of water, so that your baby can grow as healthy as possible.
