Coccyx Removal & Pregnancy: Impact on Labor & Delivery

Question
I'm on my way to 9 months of pregnancy and was wondering if there will be effects of my coccyx removed 16 years ago to my labor and delivery? i heard it has a vital role in labor and delivery.

Answer
I can't imagine that not having a coccyx would have any detrimental effect on your labor and delivery.  In fact, it should be beneficial.  Certain delivery positions, particularly those that involve lying in bed on your back or semi-reclined, will normally force the coccyx inward and create a bony obstruction to the baby's descent.  With your coccyx already removed, this will be one less obstruction as your baby moves through the pelvis at birth.
