Understanding Cervical Dilation: What Does 70% Effacement Mean?

When the doctor checked me today she said I was 2 centimeters dilated and 70%...What is the %?

Answer
That is how effaced, or how thin, your cervix is. When your cervix is 100% effaced it's also referred to as "ripe". This allows the cervix to dilate easily.
