Trying to Conceive After a C-Section: Safe Timing & Recovery

Question
Hi,
I had my first baby 9 months ago through a c-section after prolonged (induced) labor. How soon can i get pregnant again? i'm hoping to get pregnant in 5 months time, when my baby's 1yr 3months old. is this safe, considering i had a c-section?

thanks

cest

Answer
It is recommended that you wait a year after the c-section itself before trying to get pregnant. This gives you time to heal completely as a c-section is major abdominal surgery. At a year and 3 months, it should be fine to try to conceive again. However, if you've had any complications after your c-section, or if the c-section was an emergency one due to problems in the pregnancy or labor, I recommend you talk to your OB/GYN first. They may give you a diagnostic ultrasound to make sure that everything is healed before giving you the "green light" to start trying again.

Please let me know if I can help you further or with anything else.

Best wishes,
Helen =)
