Nausea & Cramping at 39 Weeks: What Could It Mean?

Question
On my 39wk chkup, my doc tried separating my membranes, later that night I began having pretty intense contractions that subsided after 9hours, the next day I lost my plug and its now 5 days later from the 39wk appt and no baby, all I feel is bad cramping and nasea, what does this nasea mean, and is it even related to the pregnancy?

Answer
The nausea could be related.  Surging hormones cause nausea in a lot of women; this is the cause of morning sickness.  Fluctuating hormones just prior to labor can also cause some nausea in sensitive women.  All of the cramping, nausea, plug loss, etc., means that your body is definitely gearing up for labor, so take it easy, relax, and be patient.  Rest up, so you'll be ready!
