Answer
Hi Amanda,

Yes, the pain you are experiencing is normal. In fact, it sounds like Pubic Symphysis Diastatis, which occurs because pregnancy hormones cause the pelvis (particularly at the pubic bone) to loosen and relax. This is good because it makes birth easier for mother and baby. However, sometimes the separation is exaggerated, especially in 2nd or later pregnancies, and can become quite painful at the end of pregnancy or even postpartum.

I also experience this with my pregnancies. In fact, I just delivered 2 weeks ago and I still feel sore and bruised in that area, though it's not bad like it was in my last trimester.

To ease the pain you can try a maternity support garment like the Prenatal Cradle or the Fembrace. You can also get some relief from a qualified and experienced chiropractor. Also, try to avoid things like putting pants, socks or stockings on while standing up and standing for too long.

Congrats on your pregnancy!
