Federal Intervention in Late-Term Abortion: A Persuasive Analysis

Question
Hi,
i am in year twelve and currently in english we are looking at the issue "should the federal government attempt to limit or restrict late-term abortions". we have to write a persuasive point of view, but i am undecided which view i would like to take. abortion is a state law so i think that the federal government shouldn't interfere, but then again i believe that if people are going to have an abortion they should hvae it as early as possible. i am hoping you could give me your view on abortions, especially late-term and your reasons for your beliefs.
Thankyou,
Kristin

Answer
I will try my best to answer your question in a short form.  If you want me to expound further, please let me know. Conservatives generally believe more in state's rights over big federal government, although they are also more likely to be anti-abortion. I see abortion quite frankly on the same lines as murder, because an innocent life is taken, therefore federal laws should apply as well as state. I do not think this is something states should differ on.  I am not totally insensitive to those who have had abortions or are contemplating them, but the reality is that a human life is being done away with if the abortion is carried out, whether early or late in pregnancy.  I believe the way I do for two reasons, one being the logic of it - that life begins at conception, there can be no other starting point to choose from.  If life starts outside the womb, then a baby could be aborted right inside the birth canal.  How cruel that would be.  I also have the Christian belief that God has a plan for each of us, including when we are but in the womb, and we are not to thwart God's plans.
Please let me know if I can be of further help.  I would not mind at all.
