Questioni have been having contractions for the past week or so and i am 37 weeks and 1 day pregnant, well last week my doctor told me that i was at 2cm and 50% effaced, well last night i lost the rest of my mucus plug and i went to the doctor again today and he told me that i was 2cm and 80% effaced i walk every day for about an hour and a half to two hours at a pretty fast pace and i was wondering if labor is right around the corner, today i woke up and i am so swollen all over!!! Also, she told me that her head is way down there, right beside the pubic bone, she said just to keep walking and i should be okay, i want to know if she is going to be here by this weekend???
AnswerThere is no way anybody can tell you for certain when your baby will decide to be born. Even internal exams, checking for dilation, effacement, and station, don't give you or your doctor any useful information. You could be 0cm and 0% effaced, and go into labor and be holding your baby within 2 hours, or you could be 4cm and 100% effaced and walk around pregnant for several weeks. Even in labor, every woman dilates differently, in different patterns and at different speeds. Get ready for parenthood, because in this, as in so many things over the next couple of years, your baby is entirely in charge!
