Persistent Menstrual Cramps While on Birth Control: What to Do?
QuestionI have been taking birth control pills for approximitely 8 months, and am still experiencing severe menstral cramps. When I initially started taking the pill, my doctor put me on a low dose estrogen-progesterone pill. However, after about 4 months, I had experienced no difference in cramp relief, so my doctor put me on a higher dose of the same type of pill. 4 months after the change, I am still having severe cramps. I have approached my doctor about it, but she said there was nothing I could do regarding my pills, and that I should just take advil. I was just wondering if there was any brand of birth control pills that I could begin taking to reduce my menstral cramps. If there is no specific brand, is there any type I should look to take that will help? Thank you for any help you can give me!
AnswerHi Gianna,
Thank you for your question. I don't recommend any kind of hormonal birth control. If you are not having relief from the cramps from taking the birth control pill, you could discontinue. Are you taking it for birth control purposes or just for cramps? I don't think hormonal birth control is healthy for our bodies. I don't think it is natural to put massive doses of hormones into our bodies. Anyway, this is just my opinion so let me know what you think.
