QuestionThank you for your reply. I was wondering what to do if someone does have vomiting or diarrhea-- if the pill loses effectiveness and if so what to do if one has those problems (unrelated to the side effects that the pill causes). Is there a time frame that the pill is absorbed in which would be okay if one did have those problems? I am just confused about that. Thank you again.

Hello,
I had a question about Ortho-Micronor (norethindrone). I have recently started on it and was reading the information that came with it and it mentioned something about vomiting/diarrhea and losing effectiveness. I was just wondering what is supposed to be done if one does have those problems (vomiting/diarrhea) and if maybe it matters what time you have the vomiting/diarrhea and what time you took the pill? Also, I was wondering what medications lower the effectiveness of this pill and what can be done if I am on those medications. Thank you.

Hi Jade,
All BCP's have the potential to cause nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Not everyone will have these problems. A few drugs like Phenobarbitol, Rifampin and some antibiotics can alter effectiveness of these products.
If you develop side effects, you'll have to change to another drug. If you have to take medicines that may inhibit the effectiveness, just become celibate until off the drugs.
AnswerHi Jade,
As long as the pill has had a few hours to get absorbed, then there should be no problems. If they vomit and SEE the pill, that would indicate no absorbtion and no protection. Besides, I would doubt that sexual activity isn't at the forefront when someone is that sick.
