Birth Control & Periods: Do I Need Backup Protection?

I am currently using NuvaRing as birth control.  If I have sex during my period is it necessary to use an additional form of birth control?

if you have been using it and respected all the guidelines, you should be protected against pregnancy when you have your period as well, just as with any other hormonal method of birth control. if you think you have failed in any rule or have taken it out for too long or any other detail, then it's advisable you use a backup bc such as the male condom.
