Understanding Pill Effects & Fertility: How Long Does It Take to Conceive After Stopping?

Question
I have been on the pill for about 10 years now. I have been married for 4 years and my husband and I are at the point if we get pregnant or not it's fine. So my question is how long does the pill last in your body and if we wanted to try should you wait a while after being on the pill so long?

Answer
No one knows the answer to your question.  There are statistics and annecdotal reports all over the map.  You will just have to stop taking the pill and see how it goes.

You are older now, that effects fertility
You took the pill for 10 years, that effects fertility

The pill's chemical hormones are gone as soon as you stop taking them.  That is why you have to take them every day at the same time, because the active effect only lasts 24 hours.  However, the passive effect has been accumulating for 10 years.  And that varies from woman to woman, although there are patterns.

You should read the package insert that comes with the package.
