Post-Birth Control Syndrome: Understanding Symptoms & Recovery

Question
I stopped my ortho tricyclen pills last month. I am 22 and I took birth control for the first time in my life and I began having problems with it. I had nausea, chest pains and back pains, sore throat. I stopped them immediately after 13days. After I stopped the symptoms went away. Now after stopping them I have been feeling all the PMS symptoms you can think of anxiety, paranoid, I am always thinking there is something wrong with me. I have never felt like this before the pill and I was wandering if this is normal and how long does it take for the pill to leave your system?

Answer
Hi Vee,

I think you should get a checkup by your doctor. I'm not a medical expert and can't tell you why you would be having PMS symptoms. I'm really glad that you went off the pill. I hate to see women having hormonal side effects from the pill. I guess it could be like you said, that the pill just takes a while to leave your system but I don't know how long it could take.
