Birth Control Pill Changes: Understanding Spotting & Discharge
QuestionI am currently on Ocella (generic for Yasmin), I have been on it for almost a month, I start the inactive pills tomorrow night. Before I took Ocella, I was taking Yaz. My last period lasted for 3-4 days. I should start my period on March 11th. Yesterday I had light pinkish/red blood when I wiped and some cramping and now I am having light brown discharge that is odorless. I have not missed any pills with the new birth control.. but when I was using Yaz I missed two (but not in a row), and I do have unprotected sex. Could this be because I am just now in the first month of the new pills or could this mean I am pregnant???
AnswerI'm confused. If you start the inactive pills tomorrow, I would expect that your period would start a few days later, but you say you should start your period March 11. In any case, I think the the mild bleeding you're having is probably related to the change in pills. Ocella/Yasmin are very similar to Yaz, but not exactly the same. Since you haven't missed any pills, the chances of pregnancy are extremely low. If you get any symptoms of pregnancy I'd do a pregnancy test. Otherwise I'd just keep taking the pill daily and most likely everything will straighten itself out.
