Birth Control for Teens: Options & Period Changes - Expert Advice

Question
I'm 15 and have been sexually active for about 5 months now. My boyfriend and I have discussed it and we both agree I should go on birth control, to be extra cautious. I've talked to my mom about the idea and she doesn't want me to go on it of any sort, so I need to get it confidentially. My only concern is- are there any types of birth control that do NOT delay/stop your period during the course of taking it? I'd prefer to take a pill, I think that'd be easiest for me.

Answer
Emily,

Maybe your mom doesn't know you are sexually active or does she not like the idea of the birth control pills? I don't recommend the pills as there are side effects and risks from the hormones. I don't recommend any kind of hormonal birth control. I also don't think it's a good idea for you and your boyfriend to be sexually active at your age. I have to counsel a lot of young people and it is really scary if you were to get pregnant. What would you do?

I would like you to read a couple of links if you would.
