Birth Control for Teenagers: Safety & Long-Term Effects - Expert Advice

Question
im 14 years old and i am taking birth control pills and im worried that they are too strong for me or something because thats what my friends tell me. They are meant for my mum because ive taking hers. Will it make me not be able to have babies when im older? ive only been on it for 2 weeks and im wondering should i stop taking them or am i worrying about nothing.

Answer
Most birth control pills used today are low dose pills, containing 20-35 micrograms of estrogen.  As long as the ones you're taking have that, they're only too strong if they make you feel bad in some way.  I believe it is best that you take the pill under the direction of a physician.  However, taking the pill is safer for you than getting pregnant.  The pill will not affect your ability to have babies later.  I recommend that you talk to your mom about seeing a doctor for the pill.
