Second Pregnancy After Abortion: Understanding Your Options & Emotional Wellbeing

Hi my name is Michelle... I'm 22 years old and I've been with my current boyfriend since I was 11... This past summer we broke up and after about a month or so I started seeing someone else... I had never been with anyone else and ended up getting pregnant. I got an abortion -one of the hardest things I've ever done!! Me and the guy broke up right before I got the abortion and I ended up getting back together with my ex at about the same time-the guy I've been with since I was 11! I didn't want him to know about the abortion I just wanted to work things out with him because he's the only person I want to be with. I was told not to have sex for 2 weeks after the abortion which was hard of course because I had just got back together with the love of my life... luckily I was bleeding for a lot of that time anyway so I just told him sorry I'm having a bad period this month. After the two weeks I did sleep with him of course. And I did take two pregnancy tests after the abortion and they were both negative... BUT after that two weeks of bleeding and no sex me and my boyfriend had our make-up sex and I immediately got pregnant again! What I'm so scared of is that something is going to be wrong with the baby because I got pregnant just within 2 to 3 weeks after the abortion and also I'm terrified and have myself thinking what if it's the same baby?? I'm scared it's not his or something is going to be wrong!! I just really need some assurance or warning!!

Hi Michelle,

Did you have your post abortion checkup two weeks or so after your abortion? If you did then you should be ok. This would be a new baby. If you go to your regular physician for prenatal care, he or she would be able to tell the probably conception date. In fact, they can probably tell you that and give you a free pregnancy test at a pregnancy resource center. To see if there is one near you, go to http://www.optionline.org or call 1-800-395-HELP.
