Post-Abortion Pregnancy Concerns: Risk & Period Irregularities

Question
Hi Doctor Joan,

I had an abortion on April 15, 2009. On May 8, 2009, I had unprotected intercourse, though my partner never came. In fact, we stopped in part because it was somewhat painful. Presuming there was pre-cum, what is the likelihood that I could have gotten pregnant from a couple minutes of penetration?

In addition, since my abortion, I haven't gotten my period yet. I'm just worried that I will miss my period again, but I'm still not sure when I'm suppose to get it or when I was suppose to ovulate. There was another time that same week we had unprotected intercourse, but this time, I took the Plan B pill.

I am worried that I still might have gotten pregnant the first time we had unprotected sex after my abortion. Thank you for you time.

Answer
Dear Jules,
It would be very unlikely that you could get pregnant from what you describe.  It's common and normal to have a delayed period after an abortion.  By now, your pregnancy test should be negative.  If your period doesn't come in one week, you can check a home pregnancy test.  If it is negative, there is nothing to worry about.  I've seen it take 2-3 months for menstrual periods return to normal after an abortion.
I hope this is helpful,
Doctor Joan
