ANSWER: Hi, christine,

To begin with, having an abortion isn't normal. You obviously suffered a complication. You are strongly suggesting that you didn't have backache and cramps with your period before. I am suspicious that you might indeed still have a problem with an inflamed uterus. You should have a doctor check it out.

There are actually two different symptoms that people commonly consider inflammation. Inflammation itself is when tissue becomes fiery red in color. The other symptom is swelling. I suspect even doctors fail to distinguish, and just refer to swelling as inflammation as well. It doesn't much matter which of these you have, or even if you have both, however, because the issue is really the same. You may have an infection. If so, you may need treatment. But there are some infections that are much more persistent. Pelvic Inflammatory Disease is an example. It can cause pain and infertility, among other things. It's the name of a syndrome rather than a cause. Also, you could easily have picked up a sexually transmitted disease, either from the abortion itself, or from sleeping with someone who has one or more, especially if you had sex soon after the abortion, when your body would be more susceptible. Even sleeping with anyone who has slept with anyone else puts you at risk. There are a number of STDs that can cause pain and suffering. So see if you can get the doctor to test for various types of infections, including STDs.

There are some things you can try that might help. If you are diagnosed with an infection, it will depend on what kind of infection it is as to what remedy would be best. But for the pain and inflammation in general, a good antidote might be Cayenne (red hot pepper). A person can get it in food or as a supplement. In UK, you probably have access to east Indian cooking in restaurants. They tend to make their food very hot. While the ingredients of curries are also helpful, Cayenne is the best. Indians do use it as well. The degree of hotness may take some getting used to, but if you take capsules and you can tolerate it, it's a good thing to try. Anyway, try these things, and if you like east Indian cooking, you can learn to make their dishes at home. It's not that hard, especially if you have access to a grocery that carries spices from Asia (I'm sure you have some; we have them here). You can simply add these spices to the right vegetables and meat and simmer a long time; Indian food tends to be overcooked. If you prefer it not so overdone, you are certainly free to cook it less. Some chutneys that they use are also very spicy. If you decide to try this, let me know if it helps.

Let me know if you learn that you have an infection, and if so, what kind. I will let you know what remedies are available. Please take care of yourself, and I hope you do better.

QUESTION: i went to the doctors the day after, they took tests for std's and for a thrush too, today my results all came back negative, which os what i expected, they have given me two pills metronidazole and doxycycline as well as pain relief. its still working to a degree but the pain is getting worse, and as it comes up to my period the pain is getting more painful. i have a hospital appointment in 2 weeks for a scan of everything. and i have looked up Pelvic Inflammatory Disease but none of the symptoms tell me why i have lower back pains, is there anything you help diagnose what it is or anything you can think of that will help at the moment of time
thanks

Answer
Hello, christine,

To begin with, I can't diagnose anything, but nobody can diagnose something like this over the internet anyway. However, if they gave you two antibiotics, there has to be a reason. If you have no infections, then why would they give you antibiotics? Something doesn't add up. I still think there is a very good chance you were injured by the abortion. One other thing comes to mind, and that is adhesions. These are often caused by surgery. It's when things grow together when they're not supposed to. I can see why an abortion would cause adhesions. If this is a problem, I think about the only thing they can do is operate again and hope. The problem is, of course, that if they operate again, that's surgery, and the same thing can happen again. Another possibility is that with any drugs they have given you, your body could be toxic. Sometimes if a person is susceptible, when the body is toxic, it can cause some of the joints to dislocate.

Here is something I have found helps with back pain, if it's due to dislocated joints or vertebrae. I lie on my back on a hard surface (carpeted floor), and I put something under my head to raise it 4 to 8 inches off the floor, and something under my knees to raise them the same amount (feet stay on the floor). I put my hands on my belly button and my elbows on the floor. Then I totally relax for about 15 minutes, and then roll over and get up. If something is dislocated, this releases all the joints so they can go back in place.

If you find out that something like this works, you should look at the possibility that you are getting something in your diet or medications that is making your body toxic. If it's not medication, you could be getting something in your diet that is causing your body to be toxic. Some things that come to mind are monosodium glutimate, artificial sweeteners, perhaps genetically engineered foods, chemicals in your food with names you can't pronounce, preservatives, and so forth. Although prior to your abortion, you didn't have any problems, it may be that the abortion weakened your body enough so that you will have problems. You might also want to look into the possibility that you are getting growth hormones in your food, especially from milk, beef, and chicken.

If you were tested for STDs right after your abortion, then the tests wouldn't be positive for anything you contracted from the abortion itself, or afterwards because you were more susceptible.

So this gives you a number of things to take a look at. It's about the best anyone can do over the internet. Ask your doctor lots of questions. Don't try to ask the people who gave you your abortion, because they are unlikely to want to find anything because of liability issues.

Please take care, and let me know what you find out.
