Post-Surgical Abortion Bleeding & Spotting: What to Expect

Question
6 weeks ago,i had a surgical abortion the gestional age was 12weeks. after the proceedure the doctor did an ultrsound and said that i have a empty uterine cavity. i bleed for about 3 days afterwards, then the last couple of weeks ive been spotting brown and sometimes bright red blood, but only enough to wear a pantyliner and usually when i wipe. i have recently had negitive pg tests, which i guess means that my hormones are getting back to normal? how will i know the difference between spotting brown and bright red blood and when my period comes? and is this colour of spotting normal? i'm not in any pain or anything. my partner and i want to concive straight again! help is this all normal?

Answer
Hi Bree,

Thanks for your question. First thing that will help me advise you, why do you want to conceive again? I guess I need to ask why you had the abortion if you want to conceive. Anyway, please let me know. Did you have a post abortion checkup at least 2 weeks after the abortion?

If you feel that you are bleeding too much or for too long, please consult a doctor. This could be dangerous to your health. I think you should know when you have your period because it should be more normal like you used to have. Please email me at CHERYL51@aol.com so we can talk privately.
Hope to hear from you soon.
