QuestionI am actually doing a research paper on abortion for my English class and i keep reading that you can get second degree burns from having an abortion. Is this true? And if so why does it occur?
AnswerHello, Malia,
That's a new one on me! If you could give me some links, I would greatly appreciate it.
There are a lot of things abortion can do that might resemble burns. For example, the scraping in a surgical abortion removes the lining of the uterus and leaves a raw surface where the blood supply is exposed, and infection can get into the blood stream readily. If an infection does get in there, it could produce a condition that may feel like burns. Some women do complain of pain. It can also cause adhesions, which will cause pain. Chemical abortions are done with very strong chemicals, and that might also cause a chemical burn in some cases. But burns as such are not discussed in the literature I am familiar with.
If you would like information on OTHER damage abortion can cause, let me know. Good luck with your paper.
