Post-Abortion Recovery: What to Expect & Aftercare

hi so I just had my in clinc abortion today with planned parenthood. it wasn't too painful just very uncomfortable with the pressure at times, cramping after was around a 1-2. while in the resting area i felt totally fine and normal. before leaving i was asked to check on bleeding and i wasn't at al (normal)

i took one methergine there after and was given two prescriptions one for the normal doxycycline and another for methergine. it is now going on to the next day i haven't bought either yet, but i will get the doxycycline tomorrow as for the methergine is it really necessary? i was told its to stop the bleeding but as of right now i am not bleeding heavy in fact it's very light also have no cramps.

now i am aware bleeding and cramps may change tomorrow but i really do feel fine. so is it okay if i just get the doxycycline and not methergine? will that be okay? and also just because i waited a day do you think ill be alright for now against infections? i just have to take the doxycycline asap tomorrow?

Hi there Alyssa,

If your bleeding is not too heavy, then you should be okay without the methergine. However, you should probably hold onto the prescription just in case your bleeding pattern changes. Take the doxycycline as soon as you get it; you should be safe from infection.
