Questioni do realize that even if i was to get the QL to relax that the perpeduating factors would perhaps make it come back.
BUT what i have been doing to fix the functional scolosis and lumbar lordosis, khyosis, anterior pelvic tilt, forward head posture, etc is daily static, dynamic stretching, foam rolling and a weightlifting program trying to get the certain long inhibited muscles to start to work again. so that is why i wanted the ql stretch. i have made alot of progress as before i was in alot of pain in the lumbar area and hip area especially the SI joint and especailly when i did any kind of prolonged sitting or bending down. now i also have a disc that is bulging or herinated or something else wrong with it and spina bifida in L4. this was found on a x ray that i have. have read that if the spina bifida occured further up the spine that it most likely could be alot worse but one chiro i went to was not so sure to dismiss it. so these could be the real reason for the troubles. but i did have a series semi bad falls while playing ice hockey about 18 years ago. i would never ever fall down in my own skates but this particular time i was using someone elses skates and did fall when trying to make the sharp turns that i usually can. i fell on one side of my hip about 5 times that day. well afterwards the side of the hip was bruised and while standing if shifted all the weight to one side the hip would drop on that side about a few cm or so. but then it got better. but then i did notice that i had refered pain in that right ql just above the crest of the illium. so maybe perhaps the fall did damage the si joint abit and caused trigger points to develop in the ql. but for years it was only a minor problem but then i got alot worse about 4 years ago.
unfortunately i dont live in new zealand as i now live in thailand. so it would be kind of hard to see you. have read alot about this PNF stretching on the internet. everyone seems to say the same as you that it needs to be done with someone helping you. but if i had the directions would it be possible to get a freind to follow the instrctions? or is this pnf stretching needs a total experienced professional to do it correctly?
one big trouble about living in thailand for medical and such is that everything here seems to be done by the book. what i mean is that treatments to help someone that have not are not from the doctor mouth just arent really avaialbe or when i ask a doctor or show him a book i have from stuart mcgill on ultimate back fitness and all the things that can be done before the last option surgery. i just get blank stares like their lost. and myself and a friend i have here have both experienceed that when a doctor does have the courage to send you to physical therapy that the physcial therapist is not free to do what they feel is best but only to obey orders from the doctor. when i did go to the physical therapist it was totally useless all they did was put me on the traction machine everyday and a few other things. although the physical therapists were very friendly about everything unfortunately friendlyness does not heal my back. the therapists were actually surprised as to why the doctor can given the orders that they did but they had to obey and here in thailand someone whose rank is not as a high as a doctor or if you are a junior employee you will never put the higher up person to shame.
thanking you in advance.

Question -
my right QL (quadarus lumboram ) muscle is very tight. i am actively working on stertching muscles such as IT band, piriformis, etc. and am daily doing self myofascial release with a foam roller. there are unknown reasons (perhaps the disc bulge i have of l4-l5) as to why this QL is so tight. but please if possible could you tell me any techniques to at least get this ql to loosen up? thanking you in advance.

Good afternoon jii.
I have already answered this question about a week ago.
Did you not receive my reply?
Please let me know.
Looking forward to hearing from you jii.
Cheers

Good morning jii. Sorry you have been mucked around a bit. I don't quite know what has been going on. Thank you for your patience.
From what you have told me and the limitations of my expertise-I would suggest that you find a physiotherapist who is highly experienced with PNF stretching. You cannot do PNF stretching by yourself.
You will need professional help though. The old and only questions left are the ones dealing with why is it only on one side and not the other.
I could help you with the PNF stretching if you are in New Zealand.
Massage as a treatment would not be all that effective. It would only feel nice for the time being. It won't correct the condition. Also, how old are you? There might be a clue here as to what is causing the condition.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Cheers
AnswerGood afternoon jii. I think I had better direct you to a doctor who is specialised in this area.
In Thailand-you might find an American, English or Continental doctor who might be able to help you. You cannot be taught PNF stretching through cyberspace. Sorry about that.
This is now getting well out of my area of expertise and I should be really directing you more towards medical rather than physio or alternative practitioners.
I'm sorry that this is not all that helpful. But, I don't want to be giving you hope when you really need specialist treatments. You might have to consider leaving Thailand to receive the treatments necessary.
Sorry that I couldn't be of that much further help.
Cheers
