QuestionHi,
I just read your response to a similar question on this site. I need your help.
I had a massage last weekend and I was told I had three pretty big knots.
One is around my left shoulder blade, the other two in the middle of my
back. She worked on the shoulder one for a very long time. Since then my
right hand is tingling. I can't get the pins and needles to stop. I googled it
and the only treatment that I can find is to rock my head back and forth to
get the nerves going, but this doesn't really make it stop. It dulls it for a few
seconds and then it's back.
What should I do? Get another massage? Head to a chiropractor? It has
woken me up every night since.
Can you help? Thx.
Beth
AnswerHi Beth,
Where did the therapist work on your shoulder? If the therapist worked, on the back of the shoulder, the pec and the deltoid/armpit then it is possible that the muscle has over tightened around the nerve since that major nerve complex comes out through the shoulder. I would recommened going to get another massager from a different therapist. Depending on your therapists training they can do different things and sometimes not even realize it. Where I am a therpaist has to have over 2200 hours of education and a certain association number before an insurance company will even consider covering them. Always check the credentials in your area to get the most out of a massage therapist. Hope that helps. If another massage doesn't help i'd say go see the doctor.
