Massage Therapy: Contraindications for Scars, Warts & Moles - Expert Advice

Hi, i'm at college doing my NVQ2 in beauty therapy and i have to find out if scar tissue with lost of sensation & areas with warts or moles will interfere with the massage. Could you help?

Hi Ellie,

As far as I am aware of there are no contra-indications with massaging areas with a loss of sensation in areas with warts or moles.

With warts I would take precautions in sanitizing your hands immediately after contact. As some varieties of the wart family may be contagious through physical contact.

When in doubt you can avoid the area or apply light pressure.
