UV Gel Manicures During Pregnancy: Safety & Concerns

Question
I am 5-6 weeks pregnant and don't know if I should continue to get my permanent french manicure.  I get the UV Gel (Brand is SGS).  I am nervous due to the chemicals.  I have never had unmanicured nails and will hate to see my nails short and stubby, but need to keep the safety of my baby first.  Thank you.

Answer
Dear Jennifer,

With regards to REAL QUALITY UV Gel, there is absolutely no danger to you, nor your unborn child.  You may continue to get enhancements done with no worries.
HOWEVER, I must share with you information concerning a common scam performed by discount and NSS (Non Standard Salons) where they offer UV Gels that are 'supposed' to be safer than acrylic (this is untrue with regards to QUALITY acrylic) and they charge more for this service WHILE in fact they are only applying acrylic and not TRUE UV Gels.
Having said that, I must confess I am unfamiliar with the brand "SGS". I have never once heard of it, and I belong to several message forums where professional technicians discuss nails, enhancments and everything related to the industry.
Please refer to this page on my site to ensure that you are indeed having REAL Uv Gels applied to your nails

I would also appreciate if you could provide me with further information regarding this brand of UV Gel IF you have any.
BY THE WAY, CONGRATULATIONS on your expected baby!  I wish you all the best.  As a mother myself, I truly understand your concerns.  I chose to use UV Gels myself as I work in my home and didn't wish to expose my children to harsh chemicals, vapours, etc.

I hope that the link I provided is helpful to you in determining if you really do have UV Gel nails.
Please do not hesitate to contact me for further information.
Again, CONGRATULATIONS.
