Nailbed Recovery: Can Your Nailbeds Regrow?

Question
I am trying to grow my nails back after biting them for most of my life.  So far so good, except for one thing--the nailbeds are so short it is hard for my nails to get any kind of length on them before they start to break or bend.  I have been trying to keep them filed fairly short but neat, closer to the nailbed's end, but then they don't reach the tips of my fingers.  Will my nailbeds ever grow out so that I can grow some proper nails, or am I doomed?  Nobody, but nobody seems to know the answer.

Thanks for your time!

Answer
I have always seen the nailbed grow back. It takes time. Sometimes lots of time.

It's possible that a lifetime of nailbiting has done enough damage that the nailbeds will never be the same, but it's not something I see in most reformed nailbiters.

You may want to consider wearing enhancements (acrylic or gel) for awhile while you get used to not biting your nails. I know many of my clients have said that that really helped them stop biting and get their nails growing well again-- but I've never been a nailbiter myself so I can only tell you what I learn from my clients.
