Men's Acne & Makeup: A Guide for Clearer Skin

Question
Hey Elaine, I am a 26 year old male that has had acne since he was 12.No matter what I do eat healthy, drink water, various skin regimes, my acne is not going anywhere because I train with weights 3x per week which causes my body to produce more testosterone, which causes my skin to produce more oil.

I have ingrown hairs around the jaw area as well which makes it worse. So I've given up on improving my acne and have finally decided to swallow my pride and try some makeup. The problem is I have no idea where to begin. I'd rather not have a bunch of stuff that takes me forever to put on or looks like I have anything on, but if there's maybe one thing that can just even out skin tone, cover scabs and not make my acne worse that would be ideal.

I'd rather have something I can pick up locally at a drug store, or Target or something inexpensive as well that doesn't have any possibly carcinogenic ingredients like titanium dioxide. I know that's kind of a lot to ask, but I just figure I'm more likely to continue using it if it's quick to apply, more accessible, healthier, and cheap. I'm in grad school so I'm still in the starving student category. I'm just sick of avoiding pictures especially at special occasions. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Answer
Hello Mark,

I plan on getting your acne under control so you don't have to turn to makeup or avoid pictures.

It's great that you are drinking water daily and eating healthy. To help understand your diet, could you please reply with what foods you are eating. How is your salt intake? Are you eating a variety of vegetables and fruits? How much sugar is in your diet? Are you taking a multivitamin daily? Do you have any allergies? Are you on any medication? Are you under high stress?

Exercise is wonderful and necessary for your health.

Once I see your answers, I will have a better understanding for a treatment.
If you could attach a picture of your skin, that could help me as well. If you don't feel comfortable doing that - it's ok - I'll work with you :)

Look forward to your reply..

Warmly
Elaine
