Gel vs. Cream vs. Ointment: Understanding Skin Product Differences

hay, i want to know the difference between gel,cream, ointment. and why gel is preffered over cream.

A gel is usually water based (non-oily); a cream usually has a water base but has an oil base as well and is whipped to make it lighter and easy to apply.  An ointment contains no water and is oil based (greasy).  Gel is often preferred over a cream for the following reasons:

1) It dries and absorbs quickly into the skin.
2) People with oily skin prefer a gel being they don't want to use oil based products on their already oily skin.
3) It feels lighter on the skin due to it's quick absorption.
