Maybelline Colour Tattoo 24HR Cream Eyeshadow Review: Is It Worth the Hype?

This product has been around for a long time. I’m sure nearly everyone has had a go on it. This little review is for all the ladies who might have missed this little marvel amongst all the other similar looking pots of stuff.

The two features of Maybelline’s Colour Tattoo that make it spesh are the shade selection: there’s loads of colours to choose from, neutrals, metallics, brights, darks, and the staying power. Colour Tattoo does not move. The swatches were on my arm for three days, impervious to my attempts to clean it off. Also it’s only £4.99, so you can grab two of them and get change from a tenner, good times! It’s smooth and creamy going on and after a little blending time stays in place for a whole day. The colour is bold and visible.

I’ve got Maybelline Colour Tattoo in On and On Bronze and Metallic Pomegranate. (I’m also hankering after Turquoise Forever and Permanent Taupe.) The bronze is especially lovely as a base layer.

Here are the swatches of On and On Bronze and Metallic Pomegranate before and after I tried to shift them off my arm with a baby wipe

I don’t find it as difficult to remove colour tattoo from my eyelids at the end of the dayas I do from my arm. Eye makeup remover does the job fine. The staying power is a huge positive for me, but I know it might be a negative for those with sensitive eyes.

How to use it

Colour Tattoo comes in little glass pots and has a cream gel consistency. You pick it up with your brush or finger to apply. So you can either-

  • Use it as a primer or base for the rest of your eye makeup, just smear on a small amount with a finger then apply liner and shadow on top
  • Or if you’re in a rush Colour Tattoo alone is fine, just quickly rub it over the lid and outer eye. It takes a second to do and looks great
  • Of course you could go to town on it, using different shades of Colour Tattoo on the lid, crease and inner eye and blend the colours with a shadow brushMaybelline Colour Tattoo 24HR Cream Eyeshadow Review: Is It Worth the Hype?

It’s so easy to use, It’s the sort of thing you can chuck in your bag if you’re off somewhere fun (like a festival, not that I’m familiar with such things, I like my toes to be clean and my toilets bleached).

Colour Tattoo is multifunctional, quick and easy and it performs really well for the price. Everyone should have a couple of them knocking about. Go on, take yourself to Boots.com,
